Since Marvel did indeed reply to my letter (albeit, not a sufficient response IMO--although, in their defense, I think presenting me with a concrete plan to produce a female starring comic book movie, a few dozen female roles with speaking parts (Like "cop #2" and "girl waiting for pizza"--the extra parts that get ignored in favor of "Minority Feisty"), and a product line that looked like the "Iamelemental" line, would have been sufficient--I might as well ask for moon and a space program to get there with it), I've been debating what to do with this page.
The entire point of starting this page was to say "HEY, pay attention to your fans" to Marvel (and Marvel is by far NOT the worst offender in the field of acting like asses with regards to women in geekdom. Of course, the fact that they've historically been a bit progressive and they've shown themselves capable of doing better is a contributing factor to calling them out--because they're not incorrigible, just temporarily suffering from cranial-rectal inversion. I called them out because I think they can pull their heads out and straighten out), and Marvel has made a nod toward paying attention to fans.
I've shown myself to be rather lousy as a blogger (I run out of time, ambition, and eloquence much to early in the day) and heaven knows that there are blogs out there that do much better than I will at explaining well and calling attention to the asshattery that's so prevalent. That said, I'm also not one to remember that discretion is the better part of valor--I've thrown my hat into the ring, I might as well get some use out of the page I put quite a bit of effort into starting.
So the "hey, Marvel, ANSWER ME" part is done--because they did answer me (eventually), but the "wow, there is a lot of sexism to answer for" still exists--so this page will still exist. It won't be updated daily (my goal is biweekly), but it can lend it's voice to the good fight fought by better bloggers.
